REQUIESCAT IN PACE
Prior to enlistment he was a Shop Assistant at Woolworths, The Corso, Manly, NSW (formerly a Shipping Clerk)
Lost over The Netherlands on 29 Aug 1941; reported missing 30 Aug 1941, Aircrew (pilot) Wellington bomber, R1213
Vickers Wellington R1213 bomber aircraft took off from RAF Station Elsham Wolds in Lincolnshire for an operation over Mannheim, Germany. The Wellington was struck by lightning and crashed in the vicinity of Vlissingen (Zeeland) in the Netherlands; four of the six 103 RAF Squadron aircrew members perished in the crash; the other two airmen survived but were captured, becoming POW's.
The four casualties of this aircraft accident were:-
RCAF Sergeant Arthur Harry FIGG,
RAFVR Sergeant John GRASSOM,
RAFVR Sergeant Hugh Alphonsus KELLY and
RAAF Sergeant Gregory Percival WILLIAMS.
