WILLS, Stanley Donald. Flight Sergeant, Pilot 400746, Royal Australian Air Force died 26th May 1942 aged 20.
He was the son of Korah Stanley Wills and Helen Pearson Wills, of East St. Kilda, Victoria, Australia. He is at rest in St Andrews Churchyard, Ballyhalbert, County Down. Northern Ireland.
The other two crew were, William Richard EDWARDS, RAF Sgt Observer 77621 and William Richard WILLS, RAF Sgt 121902. They are at rest in Ballycranbeg Roman Catholic Churchyard, which is not far from this church.
Some notes from his service record.
He joined up on the 14th October 1940 aged 18 and was by occupation a dispatch clerk. He was born on the 21st March 1922, and he lived with his mother Helen Pearson Briggs and stepfather at 245 Alma Road, East, St Kilda, Victoria, Melbourne. He had previously served with the 5th Victoria Scottish Regiment and he had a civil conviction for riding a bicycle on a footpath. After he had completed his training he embarked from Sydney on the 22nd February 1841, Disembarked at Canada on the 16 March 1941, that was for Flying Training Course, No 11 S.F.T.S, Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. On the 18th June 1941 he embarked Canada for UK and on the 17th July 1914 he disembarked in UK. He was stationed at RAF Station, Ballyhalbert, Co Down, He was killed in a flying accident while stationed at RAF Ballyhalbert.
