Allen was the only son of Roy William James and Violet May (GOWER) WILSON.  His parents moved from Williamstown, South Australia to the Darling Downs in 1909 and they were married November, 1912.

Allen had an older sister, Lucy May WILSON who married Victor Henry BAKON in 1932, in Queensland.
