Tommy enlisted in the RAAF at the outbreak of World War 2 in 1939, and in the circumstances of the time, was called up in June 1940. He served at Bradfield Park, Ballarat, Evans Head and Amberley before sailing from Australia, on the Queen Elizabeth for overseas on 5 April, 1941. He served in Kenya, the Middle East, Ceylon and over Burma. Tom’s service overseas totalled exactly 2 years before he lost his life on 5 April, 1943. At the time of his death, he was a member of 11 Squadron, RAF and his posting on death was 167 Wing Headquarters.
