Allan Wright was born at Shepparton East the only son of Walter and Eleanor Wright of Shepparton East at which State School he received his early education. There he took a keen interest in the young Farmers Club of which he was Vice-President; and he was also a member of the Shepparton East Tennis Club. Later he went to Shepparton High School where he was head prefect.
He joined the Commonwealth Savings bank at Shepparton in 1940 and was subsequently transferred to relieve at Wangaratta Branch afterwhich he enlisted in the RAAF in May 1942.
Allan was a valued member of the Methodist Church Choir; and Order of Knights. He took great in music and singing and was a keen sportsman having been prominent in school sports.
Following his training in various RAAF camps he sailed for England during the first week of March 1943 going via America. He went to Scotland for further experience and was finally located in England where he became Navigator of a Lancaster Bomber and had the experience of bailing out at 6000 feet which earned him membership of the Caterpillar Club.
