Biography

Carl Oswald BASCHE was born in 1876 in Greenfield, Macleay River, New South Wales

His parents were Carl BASCHE and Emilie WALSHE

He enlisted with the 1st New South Wales Mounted Rifles (B Squadron) which served in South Africa in the Boer War

1st NSW Mounted Rifles under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel KNIGHT embarked from Sydney on the ship Southern Cross on 17th January, 1900 & arrived in Cape Town, South Africa on 17th February

Carl died of Enteric Fever in Bloemfontein on 16th April, 1900 aged 24 years

Buried at President Brand Cemetery, Bloemfontein, South Africa

He is also listed on a plaque in St James Anglican Church in King St. Sydney

Lieut. C O BASCHE died of enteric fever aged 24, who had for some time held a position as a Clerk in the Treasury Department but has obtained leave of absence under the circumstances. He joined the Army service corp. as a Private & rose from the rank to his present position.  He is an excellent rifle shot and a good rough rider. More -over he is very popular with his regimental comrades
