When Anders Gustav Belin enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs Emma Belin, Sverp, Sweden. It is noted that both in the newspaper listing and his entry in the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 76, his second given name is spelt Gustaf.

Anders Gustaf Belin was born on 25 Feb 1876 at Tierp, Uppsala, Sweden, a son to Johannes Selén (Anders Larsson Belin) and Emma Margreta Olsdr.
