When George Howard Clark enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. E. Courtney, Blayney, NSW.

George Howard Clark was born in 1879 at Carcoar, NSW, a son and 2nd of two children to David Clark and Mary Josephine Clark (nee Thompson). His parents had only married at Carcoar in 1877 before his father's untimely passing in 1881 at Blayney where the family were living. His mother remarried to Edward P. Courtney in 1884 at Tenterfield, NSW.
