"OBITUARY. The late Driver E. J. Conybeare
Orange. Thursday - Driver E. J. Conybeare of the NSW Mounted Corp under Colonel Knight whose death at Bloemfontein from enteric fever is officially reported was a native of this town and went from here to the war. He was very popular and respected by a large circle of friends. He had been in a number of engagement at the front and had some very narrow escapes. His death is much regretted here. On of his brothers Mr. John Conybeare was serving with the Soudan Contingent and another Mr. F. W. Conybeare is a member of Parliament for East Torrens in South Australia. His parents and other relatives are old and much respected residents here." - from the Sydney Evening News 22 Jun 1900 (nla.gov.au)
