Add my storyBiography contributed by Maurice Kissane
Walter Edwards was a NSW Garrison Artillery Gunner who volunteered for overseas service. He served in "A" Battery, R.A.A. during the Boer Offensive in South Africa. He embarked from Sydney in 1899 but died on active service in 1900 after being kicked by a horse.
Field Artillery was horse drawn. Walter was kicked by a horse but he died from Tenanus. The year 1900 was well before effective Tetanus vaccines where developed.
An Extract from a Royal Field Artillery Report by Colonel S.C. Smith R.F.A. described Walter as a "Good fellow - who behaved throughout with great pluck".
Gunner Walter Edwards "A" Battery R.A.A. was the first of three deaths in his unit on active service.
Lest We Forget.
