Biography

The Express and Telegraph (Adelaide, SA: 1867 - 1922) Wednesday 10 April 1901

Excellency Lord Tennyson received the following telegram on Tuesday from Sir Alfred Milner at Cape Town:—"Trooper J. Hamilton (No. 358), of the South Australian Bushmen's Contingent, drowned at Kronstadt." The Chief Secretary states that this number corresponds with that of Sergeant J. Hamilton, of the Fifth Contingent, whose mother resides at Bacon-street, Hindmarsh. On receipt of the information the Chief Secretary sent a message of condolence to the mother of the deceased.

IN MEMORIAM.

HAMILTON.—In loving memory of Sergeant James Hamilton, who was accidently drowned at Kroonstadt, South Africa, April 3, 1901.

We miss thee from our home, dear;

We miss thee from thy place;

 A shadow o'er our life is cast,

We miss the sunshine of thy face.

We miss thy kind and willing hand,

Thy fond and earnest care;

Our home is dark without thee.

We miss thee everywhere.
