Richard Jeffrey INCH was born in Hill End, NSW in 1877
His parents were David INCH & Hannah PATTERSON who married in Hill End in 1877
He served as a Trooper with the 3rd NSW Imperial Bushmen & was returning to Australia on the transport ship Manila on 13th June 1902 and was suffering from insanity due to sunstroke when he jumped overboard & drowned - he refused an attempt to rescue him with a lifebuoy & drowned near Hobart, Tasmania

His brother Victor William INCH who was in New Zealand at the time he enlisted to serve in WW1 was awarded a Military Medal
