James Edwin Walker was the son of Fenton and Maria Walker. He was born in 1862 but claimed to have been born in 1868 to enlist.  He was baptised on 11 May 1862 at St John's Church, Thongsbridge, West Yorkshire, England, citing Bio on Find a Grave. He migrated to Australia after 1891. James was a Drover. He lived at Nagambie. James was KIA during the seige at Elands River, near Swartruggens, Transvaal. His Official Boer War Grave Marker in the Swartruggen Cemetery records that he died on 6 August 1900.

However AWM which uses records complied and published in 1911 records 17 August 1900. The seige of Elands River took place between 4 August 1900 and 16 August 1900. Trooper James Edwin Walker [75] NSW Bushmen was hit by a bullet in his left thigh and stomach. 

He is memorialized on the South Africa War Memorial in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. For he was a NSW Bushman from West Yorkshire, killed in the 2nd Anglo-Boer War.
