Private Peter Richard Hart No.2781944, 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment Age 22.

Died at 2 Field Ambulance on 29 March 1967 from wounds received in a contact with a small enemy force in Phuoc Tuy Province, Vietnam on 21 March 1967. This was the first day of Operation Portsea near the abandoned hamlet of Ap My An, Lang Phuoc Hai. Operation Portsea took place between 21/03/67 and 16/04/67.

Peter lived with sisters Margaret and Sue, mum Ella and dad Bob in Roseberry Street Heathcote when he was conscripted for National Service.

The family moved to Western Australia after Peter’s call up. He was employed by the Postmaster General’s Department at Sydney GPO. Peter was a young gentleman loved by all. He was a fun loving larrikin who loved ballroom dancing, Aussie Rules Football, a member of Heathcote Hawks AFL Club.

Peter was due to return home and in the closing days of his last tactical operation after almost a year in Vietnam when he sustained his fatal injuries.

He is buried at Woronora Cemetery. LEST WE FORGET
