National Serviceman who did basic training with 23Pl, ECoy, 1RTB from 29/9/1965 to 18/12/1965 where he was declared best soldier of ECoy at the end of his training. He was also awarded as a marksman. Was posted to Infantry and did corps training the School of Infantry, Ingleburn, NSW Australia. He was posted to 3RAR in South Australia for unit training and volunteered for Vietnam and was posted to 6RAR. On 6/2/1967 he was severely wounded by friendly artillery fire and died of his wounds the next day.

Biography

Dougie was called up for National Service on the 29th September 1965 and was posted to 23 Platoon, E Coy, 1RTB, Kapooka.

During training, Dougie was chosen as best soldier in the company and was also classified as a Marksman.

Dougie was posted to Infantry and after corps training was posted to 3RAR in South Australia.

Dougie volunteered for Vietnam and was posted to D Company, 6RAR.

Dougie was wounded on the morning of 6th February 1967 by artillery fire from 161 New Zealand Field Battery when it fell short in 6RAR D Company's location, killing four of D Company, including Dougie. He died on the 7th Feb 1967 from his wounds.
