Served at Charles Haugh. In November 1919 he wrote that he had changed the spelling of his surname due to his father being German and his (Charles) desire to enlist in the AIF. He had been previously been rejected to his is father being German

Son of Richard Otto Hauff and Elsie Hauff nee Bush of Shepparton, Victoria

Commenced return to Australia on 19 June 1919 aboard HT Miltiades disembarking on 5 August 1919
