Biography

"BROKEN HILL WOUNDED.

Mrs. Strang has received notification from the Defence Department  that, her husband, Private W. A.  Strang has been wounded in the Dardanelles. Private Strang, before enlisting worked on the Proprietary for  a number of years. He left with the  First Contingent; and was in the 10th  Battalion." - from the Broken Hill Barrier Miner 28 Jun 1915 (nla.gov.au)

After initially advising that Strang had been wounded the Defence Department subsequently advised that he had been killed between 25 and 29 April 1915. His son Allan was tragically killed by a firearm whilst playing soldiers with a friend in August 1916.

The Advertiser 25/4/1916

STRANG.—In sad but loving memory of our dear husband and father, William Andrew (Arthur) Strang, who was killed at the Dardanelles, the 25th of April, 1915.

We mourn for you, dear Arthur, No eyes may see us weep,

But many a tear we shed for you While all are fast asleep.

But it does not matter how we weep,

No matter how we call,

There's nothing left to answer

But your photo, on the wall.

—Inserted by his loving wife and only son, Rose and Allan Strang.
