Leonard was born around the time of August in the year 1886. He was born in the small town of Wirrabara in South Australia. He was born to his mother Mrs Agnes McPhail. Leonard was a labourer. Leonard was 6 foot 1, he had blue eyes, and was 175 pounds. Leo was also a part of the Church on England throughout his lifetime.
Leonard enlisted in the Army on the 21st of February 1916 in Adelaide South Australia, he was 29 and 8 months old at the time of his enlistment. He arrived at camp on the 23rd of February 1916. He then embarked on the 11th of April 1916 in the 10th Infantry Battalion.
Leonard was later wounded on the 21st of January in 1918. He was first advised discharge form, then he was discharged on the 31st of March 1919 after 3 years of service. He was discharged due to being unfitted to continue working.
Leonard sadly died at 64, in 1950, the reason of death is unspecified. He was then buried at Port Augusta Carlton Parade Cemetery, Australia.
Leonard was awarded with the British war medal along with the victory medal. Leonard is also at the Wirrabara District WW1 Roll of Honour.
