Tex Allaway, my neighbour.
Archie “Tex” Allaway was my neighbour as a boy growing up.
He spent a lot of time with me and he told me many tales of his time in the Army and in particular his time a Tobruk.
He was in the Militia Artillery in the 1930’s. During his time in Tobruk his Artillery skills proved handy as he was able to crew a captured Italian field piece and send a bit of love to the Germans.
After the war he worked at The Courier Mail (Brisbane) for decades before retiring.
He and his wife came to my wedding.
