Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

The death occurred In the Proserpine District Hospital on Monday morning of Mr. Carl Ludwig William Altmann, at the early age of 48 years. Deceased, who had been in indifferent health for some time, went to Brisbane early this year where he underwent an operation. Upon his return his health gradually continued to fail and despite medical skill he passed peacefully to rest.
Mr. Altmann was born in Mackay in 1900, the eldest son of Mr. O. C. Altmann and the late Mrs. Altmann, who resided in the Cannonvale district for many years following Mr. Altman (snr.) taking up land there in 1906. Deceased was one of the first scholars at the Cannonvale State School. Upon completion of his education he worked with his father for some years after which he went to the Giru district where he met and married Miss Alice Burl. Shortly afterwards he returned to the Cannonvale district and worked in partnership with his brothers, eventually purchasing their share and carrying on the farm until he disposed of it about a month ago.
Deceased was a member of the V.D.C. during the last war, also a member of the Garrison Force, serving at Townsvllle and Bowen. He took an active interest in the progress of the  Cannonvale State School, being a member of the committee for many years.
He is survived by his widow; Mrs. A. Altmann, of Cannonvale, two daughters, Emily and Jeanette, and two sons, Joe and Otto. Also by his father, Mr. o. C. Altmann and brothers Herman (Cannonvale), Alfred (Kungurci) and Alex. (Sydney), and a sister, Mrs. W. Mann (Herberton). The funeral, which was largely attended, moved from the Presbyterian Church on Monday afternoon, Rev. D. C. Blake officiating at the services.
