Arnold was the sixth of eight children of Alfridt Anton Andersen (born 1889 in Pialba, QLD) and Eileen Scott (born 1893 in Gympie, QLD). Arnold was living in Wynnum, QLD and working as a Pastry Cook when he enlisted in February 1942 in the Australian Army. He served with the Australian Composite Anti Aircraft Regiment as a Gunner (Service No: QX27929) and was Discharged in 1945
Arnold's brothers Edgar Anton (Service No: QX29381) and Desmond Noel (QX35961/Q1010619) also served in WWII. Following his Discharge, Arnold returned to Wynnum, QLD where he was working as a Pastry Cook when he married Mavis Mary Agnes Cook (born 1928 in Roma, QLD). Arnold and Mavis relocated to Southport, QLD where Arnold worked briefly as a Mechanic, before returning to employment as a Pastry Cook.
