Lawrence was the fifth of six children of Bertie Andrew Anderson (born 1881 in Gympie, QLD) and Daisy Elizabeth Tompkins (born 1886 in Maryborough, QLD).

Lawrence lived in Gympie, QLD and was working as a Milk Vendor when he married Maisie Elsie Veal (born 1919 in Gympie, QLD) abt 1940. Lawrence enlisted in Gympie, QLD in the Australian Army in December 1942, and served with Australian Army Signals 7 Australian Division as a  Signalman (Service No: QX49355(Q136239). He took his Discharge on 22 October 1945. Lawrence's brothers - Francis Herbert (Service No: QX47692) and Albert Victor (Service No: QX44018) also served in WWII.

Lawrence and Maisie continued to live in Gympie, QLD and Lawrence worked as a Salesman before joing the PMG as a Technician. Lawrence died in 2003
