Signalman Ernest Frederick Auer (Service No:Q208563) served in the ACMF from 10 June 1942 to 7 November 1944 and was attached to Line of Command (LoC) Signals at Discharge.

Born in 1903 in Mudgee NSW, Ernest was the foruth of seven children of Wilhelm (William) Auer (b1872 in Maryborough, QLD and Sarah Ellen Venables (b1874 in Mudgee, NSW). William (a Labourer) and Sarah married in Mudgee in 1894 and by 1905 were settled in Bundaberg, QLD where they raised their family and William was a Labourer.

Ernest started work with the Commonwealth Public Service - Post Master General's Department in 1920 as a Telegraph Messenger in Maryborough. He remained with the PMGs Department until retirement - serving as a Postal Assistant in Mt Morgan (1925) and Bundaberg (1926); a Postal Clerk in Townsville (1931), Charters Towers (1937) and Maryborough (1942). In 1930 Ernest married Esther Jane Stephens (b1900 in Maryborough, QLD) - Esther died in 1944. In 1949 Ernest was a Postal Official in Warwick QLD when he married second wife Eileen Margaret O'Brien (b1919 in Maryborough, QLD). Ernest and Eileen lived in Warwick, Mt Larcombe in Gladstone (1954), Millermerran on the Darling Downs (1958) and by 1959 Ernest was Postmaster at Charleville, then Moree NSW and Warwick before retiring to Manly, Brisbane QLD. Ernest died in 1976 and Eileen in 2001.
