Private Mervyn Leslie Auer (Service No:QX60251) first enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:Q106680) on 9 February 1943 and was attached to 1 ARD. Private Auer was in New Guinea when he enlisted 'in the field' in the AIF on 28 January 1944. Private Auer served in New Guinea (8 September 1943 - 20 May 1944) and in Borneo with 64th Infantry Battalion BCOF (16 June 1945 - 19 January 1946). He was Discharged on 19 September 1946.
Born in 1922 in Bundaberg QLD, Mervyn was the third of six children of William Leslie Auer (b1897 in Mudgee, NSW) and Bertha Elizabeth Jean Deegan (b1894 in Bundaberg, QLD). William (a Labourer) and Bertha married in 1917 in Bundaberg, QLD where they raised theirf amily and William was a Labourer.
Mervyn was a Cane Cutter before enlisting in the Army, and in 1947 he married Hazel Jean Rath (b1924 in Bundaberg, QLD). Mervyn and Hazel settled in Bundaberg where they raised their family and Mervyn was a Fireman until the late 1960s when he worked as a Builder's Labourer. Mervyn died in 1979 and Hazel in 2012.
