24 Jan 1918: Honoured Military Medal, Battle of Messines, Cpl Rose was awarded the Military Medal (MM) at Messines on 16/17 July 1917 whilst leading a pack of mules carrying material for the Engineers, the dump was heavily shelled, killing one and wounding others. Under shell-fire, Driver Rose moved the wounded and dead to shelter, although he was wounded himself. Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 9
