Doreen was the second of three children of James Bashford Bain (born 1893 in Ipswich, QLD) and Eva Mary Yates (born 1895 in Ipswich, QLD). James (a Clerk) and Eva married in Booval, Ipswich, QLD in 1918 and lived in Brisbane and Ipswich.
In 1943 Doreen was a Clerk living in Brisbane, QLD when she enlisted in the ACMF. She was a Lance Corporal (Service No:QF271514) attached to Australian Army Womens' Service Barrack when she was Discharged in November 1944. In October 1944 Doreen married Douglas James Hardie (Private; QX12515).
Doreen and Doug settled in Brisbane, QLD before moving to Port MacQuarrie, NSW where Doreen died in 2000 and Doug in 2012.
