Son of John PATON and Louisa PATON nee PARSONS
Husband of Mrs Edith PATON nee JOHNSTONE, Church Street, Terang, Victoria
Charles Paton, a 55, returned soldier, collapsed and died tonight while walking home. Mr. Paton was employed by Mr. J. D. Clancey, butcher, for many years, and was associated with many public movements. He had not been In good health for some months.
Mr. Charles Paton, 56 years, while walking to his home in Strong-street, Terang, collapsed and died. During the Great War he served for four years in Egypt and France, and returned with the rank of Sergeant. He was a past-president of the R.S.S.I.L.A. and had served for 30 years as a member of Terang fire brigade, holding the long service bars and medal. He was also a past-president of Terang branch A.N.A,; past-president and former secretary of Terang Caledonian Society; a former secretary of Terang rifle club and was actively interested in the Terang angling club. At the time of his death he was vice-president of Terang Progress Association. Mr. Paton leaves a widow two sons and two daughters.
PATON. — On the 8th June, at Strong street, Terang, Charles (late A.I.F.), beloved sixth son of the late John and Louisa Paton, of Crossley and beloved brother of John (Oakleigh), George (deceased), Robert, Lewis, Thomas (deceased), Agnes (deceased Koroit), Florence (Mrs. R. Corr, Quambatook), Harry (Carnegie), Lucy (Oakleigh). —At rest.
TERANG, Sunday. — More than 500 people attended the funeral of Charles Paton, returned soldier at Terang yesterday. The Rev. J. P. Hamilton officiated at the graveside.
Members of the Terang A.N.A. and branches and Terang Fire Brigade marched in front of the hearse.
