Private Alan Hartley Beiers (Service No:Q229104) had served four and half years with the Militia (49th Battalion) before enlisting in the ACMF in 1942. He served with 19 Battalion VDC Roma until his death on 30 July 1944. Son Colin Alan (Service No:32907) served in the RAN (Service No:32907) from October 1946 to October 1948.

The second of six children, Alan was born in 1903 in Beenleigh, QLD to Hans Andrew Beiers (b1877 in Maryborough, QLD) and Frances (Fanny) Kate Ford (b1875 in Bundaberg, QLD). Andrew (a Teacher) and Fanny married in 1901 in Maryborough QLD and lived in Rockhampton, Beenleigh, Thargomindah, Montville, Gatton, Ipswich and Brisbane QLD where Andrew was a Teacher/School Master.

Alan first attended the Lord John Swamp State School in Warwick, QLD when he was five years of age, and his first teaching post was in Jinghi Gully at Jandowae on the Darling Downs, QLD in 1924. In 1926 in Toowoomba, QLD Alan married Mary Maxwell Lake (b1903 in Stanthorpe, QLD) - Mary was a Teacher in Toowoomba. By 1926 Alan and Mary had settled in Roma QLD where Alan was a Teacher, and also Commissioner of the SW District Boy Scouts and Secretary of the Roma Bowling Club, Maranoa Masonic Lodge, Friendly Societies Dispensary and the SW Branch of the QLD Teachers' Union. Alan died in 1944 and Mary in 1983.
