Lance Corporal Leonard Ralph Breiers (Service Nos:QX58717/Q106948) served with the ACMF and AIF. He was in Katherine, NT in January 1944 when he enlisted in the AIF. He was attached to F Australian FS SFC when he was Discharged in February 1945.

Born in 1907 in Thargomindah, QLD Leo was the fifth of six children of Hans Andrew Beiers (b1877 in Maryborough, QLD) and Frances (Fanny) Kate Ford (b1875 in Bundaberg, QLD). Hans (a Teacher) and Fanny married in 1901 in Maryborough, QLD and lived in Beenleigh, Rockhampton, Thargomindah, Montville, Gatton, Ipswich and Nundah in Brisbane where Hans was a Teacher/School Master. In 1951 Hans killed an ailing Franny before killing himself.

Leo started school in Montville, QLD in 1912 and was attending Brisbane State High School in 1924 when he was awarded a Teacher Training Scholarship. Leo taught in Nundah and Miles, and in 1934 in Rockhampton QLD he married Gwendoline Emily Forder-Jones (b1908 in Lismore, NSW) - Gwendoline was a Teacher in Bundaberg and had taught in Blackall and Pine Hill in Alpha QLD. Leo and Gwen lived in Banscroft and Mungar Junction nr Monto, and in 1939 Leo was appointed Head Teacher at Mungar State School. Following his service, Leo returned to Mungar and by 1958 he and Gwen had moved to Nundah in Brisbane, QLD. Leo died in 1961 and Gwen in 1964.
