Doug Bell
George William Douglas Bell was born in Cairns, 7.12.1915, the 2nd of 6 children to Harry & Margaret Johnston. His father worked the cane fields of Mossman before moving the family to Proserpine in 1918.
Doug was 1 of the 1st pupils at Banana Pocket Provisional school. After leaving school he worked the farm with his father, later taking over the farm on his father’s retirement. In 1940 he married May Stafford, having a family of 2 girls. He was active in his community serving on the school & hall committees, as well as being an active member of the Canegrowers branch.
He passed in Proserpine on 30.10.1992 at the Proserpine Nursing Home.
