Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Youngest of four brothers who served in WWI and/or WWII, Private Harry Bensley (Service No:Q203197) served in the ACMF with 8 Battalion (QLD) VDC from 9 May 1942 to 21 October 1945.

Harry was born in Brisbane, QLD in 1911, youngest of five children of Arthur Bensley Snr (b1864 in Norfolk, England) and Margaret (Maggie) Elder (b1869 in Fifeshire, Scotland). Both Arthur and Maggie immigrated with their parents and siblings - Arthur arrived in Brisbane in 1871 on board the Storm King, and Maggie arrived in Cooktown in 1884 on board the Chybassa. Arthur was a Selector in 1890 when he and Maggie married in Rosewood on the Darling Downs, where they settled and raised their family and Arthur was a Farmer. The family later lived in Cleveland in Brisbane, and in Stanthorpe where Arthur was a Fruit Grower and Orchardist.

Harry was a Farmer all his kife - initially at Beechmont via Southport and then settling at Rochedale in Brisbane. Harry died in 1979.
