Corporal Frank Benzie (Service No:QX10611) enlisted in the Army on 29 June 1940 as a Private attached to No 3 Infantry Training Battalion. On 13 December 1940 Private Benzie was posted to 2/15 Infantry Battalion and served in the Middle East (8 April 1941 - 27 February 1943) - he was WiA there on 2 November 1942 (Shell Wound) - and New Guinea (10 October 1943 - 26 August 1944 and 16 January 1945 - 19 September 1945). Born in 1920 in Brisbane QLD, Frank was the ninth of eleven children of James Benzie (b1869 in Aberdeen, Scotland) and Louisa Fanny Shove (b1881 in Surrey, England). James immigrated in 1889 and Louisa in 1900 - both arriving in Brisbane on board the Jumna. Frank worked as a Sawyer in Maryborough, QLD prior to his enlistment in the Army. In 1944 in Brisbane QLD he married Irene Margaret Dickson (b1925 in Brisbane, QLD). Following his Discharge, Frank and Irene settled in Brisbane where Frank was a Student until the early 1950s when he was appointed as a Linesman with the Post Master General's Department in Brisbane - in all post WWII Census Records Frank recorded his employment as 'student'.
