Alywn Thomas Burow QX43226 (Q135907) – Wooroolin WW11 Honour Board
Alwyn Burow was born 26 Dec 1922, the son of Fred & Elsie Burow of Wooroolin Rd, Memerambi. His sister Joan was born 2 years later and became Mrs Frank Jacobson in 1943. In 1928 Alwyn enrolled at Memerambi School as did Joan 2 years later. He attended High School at Kingaroy where he obtained a Junior University Certificate per Maryborough Chronicle, Thursday 15 December 1938 and became a School Teacher, based at Monto when he enlisted.
Alwyn enlisted at Monto on 7 Apr 1942 where he was attached to the 56 Australian Anti Aircraft Company, R&E. The nominal roll records him as being in the 2/1 Australian Anti Aircraft Regiment (Composite). I believe he served in the catering section feeding many servicemen men and woman during WW11. Lieutenant Corporal Alwyn Burow served at various places in Qld as well as at Buna, New Guinea, and Balikpapan. (I wonder if he was feeding my Dad, Laurie Jones, whilst he was at Balikpapan!) Alwyn was discharged on 5 Aug 1946.
He married Lola Tietzel about 1952 and lived in many place in Queensland where Alwyn was a School Teacher. They retired to Maroochdore, after some years at Bli Bli, where Alwyn died in 2011 aged 88 years. He is remembered at Buderim Lawn Crematorium and Memorial Gardens.
