Eric was the youngest of five children of Thomas Harold Butler (born 1887 in Brisbane, QLD) and Elizabeth Jane McKeown Russell (born 1889 in Brisbane, QLD)
Eric was living in Brisbane and working as a Carter in February 1942 when he enlisted in the ACMF, serving until October 1942 as a Private (Service No: QX40698) with 113 Light Anti Aircraft Battery.
On 4 October 1942 Eric transferred to the Australian Armymand served with 235 Light Anti Aircraft Battery as a Private (Service No: Q146090), Eric served in New Guinea (13 October 1942 to 20 April 1944) and Morotai (7 July 1945 to 30 March 1946). He took his Discharge on 25 June 1946.
Brothers - Thomas Vernon (Service No: QX20717) and George Harold (Service No: QX44359) served with the Australian Army during WWII
Eric returned to Brisbane, QLD and worked initially as a Storeman and then briefly as a Grocer before marrying Irene Marie Cameron (born 1928) in 1956 in Brisbane, QLD. Eric and Irene moved to Margate in QLD where Eric worked as a Labourer, then in 1963 settled in Redcliffe, QLD where Eric worked as a Linesman's Assistant before becoming a Trcuk Driver. Following Irene's death in 1974, Eric worked as a Taxi Driver and died in 1994.
