Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Thomas George Dellar (Service No:2419) served in the AIF with 39th Infantry Battalion from 11 August 1916 to 20 July 1919. Private Dellar embarked from Melbourne for Plymouth on 20 October 1916 on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln and returned from Devonport on 30 April 1919 on board HT Karagola. Private Dellar was WiA in France on two occasions - shell gas poisoning and shrapnel wounds in 1917 and on the second occasion in 1918 he remained on duty.

George was born in Dimboola, Victoria in 1885, youngest of ten children of William Dellar (b1831 in Cambridgeshire, England) and Phillippa Dorset Johns (b1846 on board the Dorset en route from Sydney to Adelaide). William immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1848, arriving in Port Philip Bay on board the Palmera. William (a Farmer) and Phillippa married in 1863 in Bochara, Victoria and lived in Hamilton and Dimboola where they raised their family and William was a Farmer and Agent.

George worked as a Farmer at Willenabrina via Warracknabeal and in 1910 married Florence (Flo) May Roberts (b1883 in Minlacowie, South Australia) - Flo's parents had moved to Willenabrina in 1890. George and Flo lived in Willenabrian and Rainbow where they raised their family and George was a Farmer. Youngest son Tom served in the RAAF (Flight Sergeant; Service No:409522) and was KiA in France in 1943. George and Flo moved to Portland where George was a Farmer. George died in 1972 and Flo in 1980.
