Alan was the second of two children of Edward Granville Capner (born 1884 in Brisbane, QLD) and Florence (Nonnie) May Linnett (born 1882 in Warwick, QLD). Alan contracted Diptheria as a child and missed some schooling - his health was affected. He was an Apprentice Painter living in Highgate Hill in Brisbane, QLD when he enlisted in the Australian Army in 1940. Alan served as a Private (Service No: 15501) with 7 Infantry Brigade HQ until his (medical) Discharge in January 1942. Following his Discharge, Alan worked as a Closed Hand Courier carrying high priority documents between US military installations.
Alan was living in Highgate Hill in Brisbane, QLD in 1943 when he married Patricia Georgeana Boyce (born 1924 in Gympie, QLD). Alan worked as a Foreman in Brisbane, QLD before the family moved to Beaudesert, QLD where Alan was a Welder. He died in 1996 and Patricia in 2004.
