Corporal Reuben Laidley Carlson (Service No:QX29711) enlisted in the Australian Army as a Private on 26 January 1942 and was attached to 11 Training Battalion - classified Shoemaker. Corporal Carlson served with 2/11 Commando Sqaudron, 2/4 Pioneer Battalion and 62 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea (30 January 1943 - 13 September 1943) and Borneo (23 April 1945 - 18 January 1946). Corporal Carlson was attached to 62 Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged on 30 January 1946.

Born in 1914 at Laidley on the Darling Downs in QLD, Reuben was the youngest of three children of John Bernard Carlson (b1887 in Laidley, QLD) and Grace Morgan (b1890 in Thornton, QLD). John was a Labourer when he and Grace married in Laidley in 1911. By the early 1920's John and Grace had settled with their family at Southport, QLD where John worked as a Labourer.

Reuben was a Boot Repairer in Southport in 1938 when he married Honor Faith Roderick (b1913 in Lismore, NSW) - Honor was a Waitress in Southport. Reuben and Honor settled in Southport and following his Discharge, Reuben resumed his work as a Shoemaker. Honor died in 2000 and Reuben in 2007.
