Biography

"The esteem in which he was held is demonsrated by the following letter which his widowed mother received some weeks ago from Lieut. Eric H. Chinner (/explore/people/65218)(his O.C. in Egypt who has since been killed at the front):— 'It gives me much pleasure to be able to tell you that your son has been promoted to sergeant. He has been of very great assistance to me during our soldiering. I have every confidence in him. He is a strong, capable, trustworthy soldier, and is loved and respected by all his men. Personally, I have the greatest regard for Bob, and I feel sure you must be very proud of your boy'." - from the Adelaide Register 15 Aug 1916 (nla.gov.au)
