Reported as taken prisoner of war, 1st February 1917. On that date a group of 70 men from C Company of the 15th Battalion were sent out to take a German advance post at Goudecourt. They held it for a time but their bombs ran out and the Germans came up in large numbers. The Germans took a number of prisoners, the operation lasting from 7 p.m. on 1st February until about 4 a.m. the next morning. Lindner was wounded when captured, grenade shrapnel in the right thigh. Interned Limburg Gefangenlager - repatriated to England 22 November 1918. Returned to Australia 5 March 1919.
