OBITUARY
Stephen John Cody, a well known resident of the Pentland district, passed away at Townsville on Friday night, aged 71. He was a Boer War veteran. He is survived by his widow,
five sons and three daughters. The funeral takes place at Townsville on Sunday morning.

Served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW2First service was as a Private S.N. 440, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Lance Corporal S.N. Q222502, 21st Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (Qld) AIF, WW2.

When Stephen John Cody enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father W. Cody, Ilfracombe, Central Railway. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 106, his address after discharge was given as Ilfracombe.

He enlisted again for WW2 (home front duties) and on his Attestation Form, dated 19 Apr 1942, it was noted; he was born at Lake Cargelligo, NSW on 15 Feb 1881; he was married and a fettler; his N.O.K. was his wife Phoebe Cody, Pentland; and he had previously served in the South African war.

He married Phoebe Janes on 13 Dec 1913 in Queensland and they had 4 children.
