Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Gunner Arthur Harold Cooper (Service No:Q141046) served in the ACMF (7 April 1942 - 14 May 1942) with CCD Artillery.

Arthur was born in Bundaberg, QLD in 1904, fourth of six children of Henry Edward James Cooper (b1876 in Maryborough, QLD) and his wife Catherine Schwarzrock (b1877 in Blumenau, Germany) - Catherine immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1883, arriving in Cooktown on board the Duke of Buckingham. Henry (a Saddler) and Catherine married in 1897 in Bundaberg, where they settled and raised their family and Henry worked as a Saddler and Carter.

Arthur worked as a Labourer in Bundaberg and at Hutchin's Slaughter Yard at Clayton via Bundaberg. In 1928 he married his first wife Dorothy May Osborne (b1909 in Bundaberg, QLD). Following Dorothy's death in 1932, Arthur remarried in 1934 to Sarah Anne Nichols (b1910 in Mt Perry, QLD), and lived in Bundaberg, where he worked as a Sawyer and Sawmill Hand. Arthur was unemployed when he enlisted in the Army, and following his Discharge, he and Sarah divorced. In 1942 Arthur remarried to Mary Margaret Barnham (nee Stracey; b1910 in Bundaberg, QLD). The couple lived in Bundaberg, where Arthur was a Horse Driver, and in the 1950s a Fireman. Arthur died in 1969.
