Private Reginald Francis Cooper (Service No:QX29912) enlisted in the AIF on 13 January 1942 as a Sapper, and was posted to 11 and 29 Training Battalions - graded as Stevedore. Sapper Cooper was attached to 2/4 Docks Operating Coy RAE on 18 January 1943 when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for New Guinea on board the Taroona. Sapper Cooper embarked on 14 March 1944 from Lae for Townsville on board the Bontekoe, and was attached to 2/4 Docks Opearting Coy RAE at Discharge on 12 June 1944.
Reg was born in Bundaberg, QLD on 4 October 1908 (on enlistment he gave 19 October 1913 as his DoB - QLD BDM:1908/C/872), only child of Henry Edward James Cooper (b1876 in Maryborough, QLD) and Martha Theresa Schwartzrock (b1889 in Maryborough, QLD). Henry was father to six other children, and Martha married later and had a further four children. Henry was a Saddler and Carter in Bundaberg.
Reg worked in Bundaberg as a Labourer, and in 1937 in Maryborough married Thelma Emily Steindl (b1914 in Bundaberg, QLD). Following his Discharge from the Army, Reg and Telma settled in Bundaberg, where they raised their family and Reg worked as a Labourer and Council Employee until his death in 1970. Thelma died in 2005.
