Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private James Oliver Cran (Service No:Q106001) enlisted in the ACMF on 15 May 1941 and served with 47 Infantry Battalion until his Discharge on 4 June 1942.

Born in 1910 in Maryborough QLD, Jim was the second of five children of Disney James Cran (b1884 at Yengarie, QLD) and Rose Beatrice Mortleman (b1888 at Gayndah, Wide Bay, QLD). Disney worked as a Farm Labourer and an Engine Driver in the Biggenden and Mt Shamrock Mines in QLD, and in 1909 was a Farmer (Dairy and Cane) at Tinana when he and Rose married. The couple settled at Bidwill Paddocks in Tinana where they raised their family and Disney later went into partnership with two of his sons.

Jim first worked as a Farm Labourer before becoming a Dairy and Cane Farmer at Bidwell Paddocks in Tinana, QLD. In 1943 in Maryborough QLD, Jim married Bessie Lavinia McLaren (b1914 in Maryborough, QLD) - Bessie was working as a Typist. Jim and Bessie settled at Tinana where Jim was a Farmer before retiring to Maryborough. Jim died in 1985 and Bessie in 2003.
