Arthur Hugh Burdekin
The third son of four sons born to solicitor, Benjamin T and Emily Burdekin of Sheffield, Arthur Hugh Burdekin was born 5 October 1888 baptised 21 November 1888 at Saint Mark's Broomhill, Yorkshire.
Census 5 Apr 1891, records him at Bridge End, Baslow and Bubnell, Bakewell, Derbyshire, England. He was aged 2 and the grandson of the head of the household.
He was educated at Mostyn House Preparatory School in Parkgate, Cheshire and recorded as a student there in 1901.
He migrated to Queensland Australia where he worked as a Jackaroo before enlisting at the outbreak of World War 1.
He enlisted 19 Nov 1914 and was attached to the 5th Light Horse Regiment, His army record shows he was 5 feet 11 1/2 inches tall, weighed 156 lbs (approx. 11 stone or 71 kg) with a fresh complexion blue eyes and brown hair and an old appendix scar.
Embarking on A34 Persic 21 Dec 1914. He was appointed Lance Corporal, 21 Dec 1915 and granted a temporary commission in the Imperial Army 27 July 1915. He was awarded the 1914/15 Star for his service in Australian Imperial Force and also qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
He returned to Queensland as a grazier or pastoralist. Although his name appears on many electoral rolls, I can find no record of marriage or children.
Arthur Hugh Burdekin died 7 April 1966 at Albany Creek, Queensland.

Arthur Hugh Burdekin transferred to the British Infantry in July 1915 at the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He survived the war.
