Lieutenant Victor Charles Chapman RFC was awarded the Air Force Cross in January 1919. He also served during WW2 in Australia as a Flight Lieutenant with the RAAF.
The Air Force Cross (AFC) was first established by King George V during 1918, after the formation of the RAF. It is a military decoration awarded to personnel of the United Kingdom Armed Forces, and formerly also to officers of the other Commonwealth countries, for "an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying, though not in active operations against the enemy". It may also be granted to individuals not belonging to the RAF for having rendered distinguished services to aviation in actual flying.
Chapman was with the AASC when he left Australia with the AIF in November 1915.
