Viv

The late Vivian (Viv)John Davy, who passed away at his Jubilee Pocket home on the 4th August, was a well respected resident of Proserpine & district.
He was born at Selwyn where his father was following a mining career. Later the family moved to Proserpine, where Mr. Davy Snr became an engine driver at the mill.
Viv received his education in Proserpine & after leaving school began work under the late Harry Muller, servicing bicycles at Dobbo's garage.
He then moved to Collinsville to work in a family carrying business. From Collinsville he joined the 2nd AIF in 1940, serving a total of 1,799 days in all, 984 days in the Middle East, New Guinea & Borneo & 815 days within Australia, before his discharge on 4th December, 1945. Most of his service was with the 2/15th Battalion.
Back home Viv met & married Mabel Dibben on 14th September, 1946, He resumed carrying with the late Roy Ruge in Proserpine & after his marriage he & his wife carried on the business for many years.
His final occupation was with Telecom from which he retired in 1975, he enjoyed a long close to Airlie Beach.
Viv was instrumental in the of the formation of the Whitsunday Sailing Club & was its vice patron.
He also was a foundation member of the Airlie Bowls Club, but unfortunately ill health prevented him from playing the game.
Viv & his wife Mabel where blessed with 3 children Helen, Ian & Jill. Also 3 grandchildren Glen, Kent & Rebecca.
A packed St Paul's , with an overflow into the church yard, at his funeral serviced was indicative of the esteem with which Viv was held by his friends & relatives.
