John was the only child of John Furey Dillon (born1895 in Kuranda, QLD) and Louisa Wasley (born 1892 in Charters Towers, QLD). John was living in Cairns, QLD and working as a Labourer when he enlsted in 1943 in the Australian Army. He served as a Private (Service No: QX/56870/Q115276) with 31/51 Battalion. Following his Discharge in 1944, John lived in Cairns and was working as a Labourer when he married Dulcie Evelyn Manning (nee Andersen) in Cairns in 1961. John continued to live in Cairns, working as a Fettler and a Labourer until his death in 1986
