Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Albert John Dodd (Service No:QX44803) enlisted in the Army on 23 October 1942 (giving his birth year as 1918 instead of 1920). Private Dodd served with 1st Artillery Training Battalion, Australian Motor Vehicle Transport Training Depot, Australian Motor Vehicle Trade Training Centre, 1st Australian Anti Tank Attack Artillery Training Regiment, 31 Australian Works Coy (1943), 2 Australian Field Artillery Training Regiment (1944) and was attached to 31 Employment Coy at Discharge on 28 July 1944.

Born in 1920 in Gympie QLD, Jack was the second of eight children of Albert William Dodt (b1893 in Maryborough, QLD) and Winifred May Hodge (b1900 in Tiaro, QLD). Albert (a Sawyer) and Winifred (a Waitress) married in 1918 in Flora Vale and settled at Kandanga via Gympie, QLD where they raised their family and Albert was a Farmer and Labourer. Albert served in WWI (Private; Service No:847) and, according to family anecdotes, never recovered from his war experiences, including Shell Shock. In the 1930s Winifred left with the children and Albert lived in a slab hut at Harry's Creek, before moving to Brisbane where he died.

Jack worked as a Labourer at The Caves in Rockhampton and was a Timber and Firewood Cutter in 1940 when he married Nellie (Nell) Hannah Thomasson (b1918 at Barmoya via Rockhampton, QLD). Following his Discharge in 1944, Jack and Nell settled at The Caves, Rockhampton where they raised their family and Jack was a Labourer. Jack died in 1990 and Nell in 2012.
