Warrant Officer I Kenneth Dodd (Service No:QX22582) enlisted in the AIF on 28 July 1941 as a Private - Trade Group Turner, then Steam Fitter. Promoted to Corporal then Sergeant, he served in Egypt (1 September 1941 - 28 February 1943) with 2nd/1st Australian Field Workshop (AFW) RAE. Promoted to Warrant Officer Class I on 4 November 1944, he was attached to 112 Brisbane Military Hospital, and in 1945 to 22 Australian Camp Hospital and 4 Australian Hospital Maintenance Platoon. WO Dodd was attached to 2/1 Field Workshop at Discharge on 9 June 1946.
Ken was born in Cheshire, England in 1908, youngest of eight children of John (aka Herbert) Dodd (b1866 in Cheshire, England) and Jessie Amelia Mitchell (b1863 in Cheshire, England). Herbert (a Coal Merchant) and Jessie married in Tranmere in 1890, and lived there and in Birkenhead where they raised their family. Herbert worked as a Coal Merchant and Tea Room Owner/Contractor until his death in 1917. Following Herbert's death, two sons (Fred and Arthur) immigrated to Brisbane in 1924, youngest son Ken in 1925 and Jessie followed in 1928.
Ken was working as a Fitter and Turner in Brisbane in July 1941 when he enlisted in the Army and married Marjory Woodyatt (b1917 in Brisbane, QLD) - Marjory was working in Brisbane as a Stenographer. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1946, Ken and Marjory settled in Brisbane, where they raised their family and Ken worked as a Refrigeration Engineer. Ken died in 1986.
