Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Lance Sergeant Colin Clifford Dolby (Service Nos:180/QX45414) served in the Army in WWII and in peacetime with RAA until retirement. His father Ernest and three brothers (Ronald, Neville and Wesley) also served in WWII.

Colin was born in Bardon, Brisbane, QLD in 1916, second of six children of Ernest Ernest Robert Bowen Dolby (b1892 in Brisbane, QLD) and Charlotte Elizabeth Churton (b1892 in Sandgate, Brisbane, QLD). Ernest (a Carrier) and Charlotte married in 1914 in Brisbane, where they settled and raised their family and Ernest worked as a Carter. By 1940, when he enlisted in the ACMF, Ernest and Charlotte were living in Manly and Ernest worked as a Waiter and Storeman. Charlotte died in 1956, and Ernest retired to Caloundra in the early 1960s. He remarried in 1978 to Fairries (Fay) Braden Cotter (nee Brown; b1919 in Goondiwindi, QLD) and the couple settled in Tingalpa.

Colin was in the Army in Brisbane in 1940 when he married Gladys Thelma Pascoe (b1918 in Gympie, QLD). Colin served in the Army until retirement in the 1980s - in 1949 he and Gladys were living in Darwin, NT, and by 1954 had returned to Brisbane, where they lived in Paddington, Enoggera and Wynnum. Colin died in 1993 and Gladys in 2005.
